Six Day Mikumi and Selous Experience
If you believe that you’ve experienced everything there is to see after going on safari in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, you are mistaken. Our Southern Big Five Safari presents these magnificent animals in a unique and remote environment, far removed from the crowds and comforts of the more popular Northern Circuit.
You will spend a day searching for lions, eland, and cheetahs on the vast floodplain of Mikumi. Then, you’ll transfer to Morogoro for a delightful farmstay before concluding your trip with four game drives, including two full-day game drives, in Africa’s largest wildlife reserve, the Selous Reserve.
Day 1 – Dar Es Salaam – Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, you will travel to Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park and a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. It is often regarded as the most accessible part of the Selous and has been compared favorably to the expansive plains of the Serengeti. The park’s main attraction is the Mkata Floodplain, where you have the best chance of spotting herds of strong Eland antelope. Mikumi is also home to over 400 different bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. You will overnight at Mikumi Safari Lodge.

Covering an area twice the size of the Serengeti and three times the size of Kruger, Selous is a vast and untamed wilderness like no other. After arriving at your lodge in time for lunch, you’ll embark on an afternoon game drive in the park. Selous is often referred to as Africa’s greatest surviving wilderness and is home to approximately 120,000 buffalo, 40,000 hippos, 35,000 zebras, and 4,000 lions.
