Three Day Nyerere National Park (Selous)
During this three day Nyerere national park (Selous) safari, you will have the opportunity to explore the largest protected area in Africa. Selous is a vast and remote wilderness, far away from the bustling crowds often found in more accessible parks. In fact, it is three times bigger than South Africa’s Kruger National Park and twice the size of the renowned Serengeti.
Within Selous, you can witness the endangered African Wild Dog, making it one of the best areas in Tanzania for observing these majestic creatures. Moreover, it offers an ideal location to see the Big Five, comprising the elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and rhinoceros. The reserve boasts a diverse range of game from both East and South Africa. During your safari, you will have two full days and two half days to explore Selous, traversing its terrain by car, foot, or even boat.
Day 1 – Dar Es Salaam to Nyerere National Park (Selous game reserve)
Your safari adventure begins the morning after your arrival in Dar es Salaam. From there, you will embark on a journey to the Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve), one of the largest reserves in Africa. Selous will leave you in awe with its vastness, covering an area two and a half times that of the Serengeti and three times that of Kruger.
Upon reaching your lodge, you’ll have lunch before setting out on an afternoon game drive in the park. The Nyerere National Park is teeming with wildlife, including over 120,000 buffalo, 40,000 hippos, 35,000 zebras, and 4,000 lions. Its untouched beauty has earned it the reputation of being Africa’s greatest surviving wilderness. Later afternoon after game viewing, you’ll retire at Africa Safari Selous Lodge.
Day 2 – Full Day Game Drive: Nyerere National Park
The entire day is devoted to exploring the wonders of the Nyerere wilderness. You’ll have the chance to observe a variety of wildlife during your game drives, such as crocodiles, leopards, hyenas, African wild dogs, kudu, and elephants. Additionally, you can choose to take part in activities like guided game walks and boat safaris within the park. Later afternoon you will be driven to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Selous River View Lodge.
Day 3 – Nyerere National Park to Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar
After breakfast, you will embark on a morning wildlife drive through Nyerere National Park before starting your journey back to Dar Es Salaam. A picnic meal will be provided for the long drive.
From there, you can end-up your safari by visiting Zanzibar either via ferry or flight, concluding you’re enriching and unforgettable Nyerere/Selous safari experience.
